Studying to become a doctor taught Fezile Mkhize about more than just the inner workings of the human body. It taught him how to be disciplined. Finding time to exercise while a full-time medical student was important to him. For him, working out is a form of meditation. While some people close their eyes or do yoga, he opts for a more active pastime. “When I work out, I clear my mind, and that enables me to work through the day or the week. At the end of the day it gives me a sense of clarity,” he explains.
After winning SABC TV’s Presenter Search on 3, being able to plan his time came in handy. Fez had to balance his responsibilities as a doctor with his new job as a TV presenter. It helped that he was surrounded by supportive people.
“The team I work with is considerate. They know that there are designated days when I’ll be in theatre, or have to go to the practice to see a patient. Even on the hospital side, as long as I give them enough notice, they don’t have a problem with me going to a random lodge in some obscure place.”
