DARPAN 5th Annual Extraordinary Achievement Awards marked another occasion for the South Asian community to gather and recognize the talents in society. We are honoured to serve as a platform for the South Asian community in Canada to confer the Extraordinary Achievement Award to those that are remarkable in diverse fields and inspire generations to come with their efforts. The year 2014 was marked by a range of personalities gracing the DARPAN Cover. From NASA astronaut Sunita Williams to UBC President Arvind Gupta, DARPAN has showcased personalities that are significantly contributing their expertise to various fields. This issue showcases a personality that has vowed to end the vile trade of trafficking from Nepal. For the past two decades, Anuradha Koirala has been rescuing women and girls from trafficking along with empowering them through programmes at her organization Maiti Nepal.

A pioneer in South Asian media, DARPAN Magazine has been a leader and trendsetter in the Canadian market since 2004. Recognized as the premier South Asian publication, DARPAN provides definitive coverage of the fastest growing ethnic market in Canada – South Asians. The publication primarily serves South Asians, who originate from India, Pakistan, Nepal and other parts of the globe, but have roots from the Indian sub-continent, such as Fiji Islands, England and Africa. DARPAN also appeals to the mainstream populace – Canadians of non-South Asian heritage, who not only have an interest in the South Asian lifestyle, but want to read in-depth, thought provoking editorial pieces within a gorgeous, high-end glossy publication
