In this issue, you will find the first interview in ten years with Tino Sehgal, one of the most important artists in the world, whose work mainly focuses on the relationship between art and the viewer, and between movement and music. You will also read an interview with Agata Ingarden, winner of the first edition of Allegro Prize. In addition, you will be able to take a look into the daily work of designers Justyna Fałdzińska and Miłosz Dąbrowski, founders of the UAU project, and delve into the everyday life of the London community depicted in the largest painting by Dale Lewis. The world of Helmut Newton's fashion photography will be introduced by Matthias Harder, director of the Berlin-based Helmut Newton Foundation. The well-known French collector and patron of the arts, Antoine de Galbert, will talk about the creation of his extraordinary collection of over three thousand works.
There will also be issues related to communities created within the film and theatre industries. You will have a unique opportunity to read the script of Krzysztof Kieślowski's unrealised film ‘Shot of the Week,’ which is presented to the public for the first time. We will also take a closer look at theatrical scenography as an independent artistic field.
The first step into the discussion of the multi-layered meaning of our main theme is a playful collaboration on the cover — a colouring page, handcrafted by a British artist Paola Ciarska. The cover she created is a painting which shows the interiors of houses filled with furniture, decorations, and residents. As a fun fact, this meticulously refined picture has elements of interior design, of which our readers sent photos of to us in the initial months of 2021.

The economy and the financial crisis, the need for special measures, aid and social benefits to provide security — these terms all accompany daily updates about the pandemic. Let’s take a step back and calmly consider if such words are anything new in relation to the cultural sector. For this reason, we have decided to dedicate this issue of Contemporary Lynx Magazine to the economy of the art world.
In this issue, we ask artists about their financial situation, life insurance, and the contracts they sign with art galleries (or not). We also look at the vague aspect of the representation of female artists in the art world and analyse blockbuster exhibitions within museums, seen as sources of revenue, prestige and attendance figures.
We also invite you to look into the exquisite art collections of Castello di Ama and Ettore Molinario. And for those of you who wish to establish or work at a gallery, we have prepared an interview with Massimo De Carlo, the founder of a mega gallery bearing his name. This issue revolves around such topics as the complexity of the concept and attempts to redefine it. In the magazine, you will find stories that matter and will stay with you for a long time.
As usual, we let the artist, designers and architects share with you their stories and experiences. You will have the opportunity to learn the creative credo of Peter Greenaway, have a closer look at the art of Shana Moulton, who offers an ironic take on the omnipresent reverence for the body and self-improvement in accordance with the contemporary mantra of capitalism. Together with photographer Michal Solarski, we look at his photography projects dedicated to the issue of leisure in post-Soviet countries. You will be able to participate in the daily routine of illustrator Ola Niepsuj and Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute (who is responsible for choosing the colour of the year), with whom we will talk about how colours affect our perception of ourselves and reality.
If you dream of working in a renowned art gallery, you should read the interview with Peppi Marchetti Franchi, a senior director with Gagosian and the founding director of Gagosian Rome. She will describe her career path and show step by step how she became the head of this legendary gallery.
The pressure of happiness, well-being and the relentless pursuit of aspirations dictated by ourselves or others also have an adverse impact on our health. Since mental health is still a taboo subject, we recommend you to read the essay ‘Burning Out in a World of Excess,’ which concentrates on artistic references to burnout, depression, confusion and inertia.


Have you ever wondered how to live in harmony with nature, how to avoid climate catastrophe? What can we do together to help save our planet? Increasing awareness of the climate crisis is crucial but changing our habits of a consumerist lifestyle is not that easy. This issue revolves around such topics as climate change, sustainability, biodiversity, living in harmony with nature, renewable energy, slow-fashion, zero-waste design, slow-living, and a greener future.

You will have the opportunity to enrich your knowledge and see these problems through the eyes of the artists, who use their talents and shape our surroundings. We will try to answer questions such as why it is so difficult to change our bad habits and how to be more eco-friendly. We will show you the portrait of the planet on the verge of disaster, and the post-apocalyptic visions of the artists. 

The issue features interviews with Erez Navi Pana, who talked about the potential of vegan design realised without the use of material derived from animals, and Robertina Šebjanič, who discussed a model for a better sustainable future with awareness of the animal world and aquatic ecosystem. We also present the statement of Olafur Eliasson and eco-activists such as Extinction Rebellion, John Gerrard and Justina Brice Guariglia. In addition to this, we will showcase the most innovative architecture designed in harmony with nature. Fashion enthusiasts will enjoy the article devoted to fast fashion alternatives. For all those who are more interested in the issues related to design, we recommend an article about the most current responsible zero-waste designs.
However, the first step into our discussion is the cover designed by Vadym Solowski, a nuclear power engineer who became a successful illustrator.

In this issue we focus on art that impacts on all the senses and its interaction with a viewer. An investigation carried out as part of an article ‘Taboo in Art’ will unravel the controversial topics that the art world never talks about. We also present visual essay where everything flows in the sticky, hyper-saturated photographs of Maisie Cousins. Fashion enthusiasts will enjoy an exclusive photoshoot of the hot new name Armada Terror, while those who are up-to-date with the latest technologies will appreciate an overview of designers whose activities are aimed at improving our bodies

In this issue, we emphasise VISIONARY IMAGINATION / THE FUTURE / VIRTUAL REALITY / ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE / ERRORS IN A CREATIVE PROCESS. We ask you to be open-minded about the new possibilities and parallel realities created by visionaries and new technologies.
The figures that we present in this issue of Contemporary Lynx are not careless fantasisers who walk around with their head in the clouds. They are determined and dedicated artists who set clear goals and strive to achieve them. Their unique work and innovative achievements are our main area of focus throughout the issue. We talk to Broomberg & Chanarin, the London-based artist and curator duo known for their boundary-pushing work. We interview Norman Leto, one of the bravest visionaries among contemporary Polish artists. We also detail the fascinating story behind the pioneering artificial intelligence work of Edward Ihnatowicz. Other articles in this issue revolve around how visions of the future intersect with technology — something that helps us to overcome the limits defined by our bodies and minds. Technology gives us an additional hand, leg, or even a hard drive connected to our brain, and consequently enhances our skills, improves our memory and changes our perception.

ART GAMES & PLAYFULLNESS / ART IN EVERYDAY LIFE / EROTICS OF ART / ART FOR ALL / INTERACTIVE ART are just some of the buzzwords which became our inspiration while creating the issue. We will show that art can inspire you in your everyday life, that it can be attractive or even sexy. You will see that art is often present in your everyday life, you just may not realise it. 
We will talk to prominent artists — Gilbert & George and Martin Parr, Alicja Bielawska and Mariusz Tarkawian. We will discuss how artists are depicted in movies and how they present themselves on social media. We will reflect on the fine line between a private statement and an artistic creation, for example on Instagram. Our topics also include comic books and a new wave of fashion photography. We will introduce you to celebrities who combine their acting and music career, with their private life filled with art. We would like to remind all of you that subjective opinions, personal perspectives and first impressions are immensely important when encountering art.

Today, thinking about migration is automatically linked to thinking about the European migrant crisis, with refugees fleeing from their home countries to the Old Continent hoping for a better future. These issues are also represented in art and our Magazine. However, what we discuss on the pages are also other aspects of nomadism and migrations; how they alter the way reality is presented on the internet, how these phenomena transform the mental picture of reality; and how to grasp the changes in perceptions of experiencing time and space, which impact on ways of making, presenting, and exhibiting art.

Nomadism and migrations are also about the constant and unlimited flow of data, images and people in our closest surroundings, but also on a larger scale, with the aim of bringing together whole communities. This can be achieved by adjusting architecture and design to a nomadic lifestyle, or through assimilating people in need or those remaining on the margins of social interest. The mass movement of people is not headed in one direction anymore. These movements spread in an uncontrolled way in all possible directions.

The theme of this issue is street art and art in the public space. 
From protest art to anti-surveillance art, in this issue, we bring engaging reviews on art in public space exploring how urban art shapes societies and cityscapes. As Magdalena Abakanowicz once pointed out: Art does not solve problems but makes us aware of their existence. It opens our eyes to see and our brain to imagine. Contemporary art, similarly to philosophy, constantly asks us questions, which are often inconvenient, annoying or occur at an unexpected time and place. It involves us in a conversation, but on its own terms. The most sensitive and at the same time the most brutal place in this respect is the proverbial ’street’. It is in this place that artists express their views in the most direct way and communicate with passers-by. We ask what public space is today, we discuss about the relations of street art and the Internet, and present how artists engage directly in current political events, supporting protests, manifestations or simply discussing the shape of the surrounding reality.

This issue is our response to the presence of technology, the advent of technology, in all our lives.
This issue explores the intersection of some of the most complex themes of our times, and among other things, our writers and artists investigate the impact of technology on the portrayal and understanding of the female body in Demystifying the Female Body (pp. 84), pin down the rapidly evolving culture of art collecting through the rise of new media in The Collectors on the Frontlines of the Extraordinary (pp.126), and travel from 19th century London to the lonely expanses of the Ural mountains in Mapping the Future (pp. 88).
From philosophical implications and considerations of what it means to be human, to the artists who practice their craft on the edge of new technology, and looming behind it all, the quest for the ultimate architectural dream — the smart city; we have collected for you a varied, astonishing palette that reveals a new frontier, and the future of art.

The third issue of Contemporary Lynx deals with the aesthetics of Eastern Europe during the 90s and so provides us with an exciting opportunity to analyse the relations of art, pop culture and the everyday life of that decade in connection to the things happening here and now.
Inside, you will find it full of powerful themes of exploration and identity; asking challenging questions like why are we so keen to relate to that specific period of transformation twenty-five years ago (an interview with artist Marzena Nowak, the articles: Back to the 90s, Head, Body, Art, and Recent Past Revisited); why contemporary artists are so fond of the aesthetics of Eastern and Central Europe in the 90s (Marinella Paderni, the article On the Absurd, Architecture, Living Rooms, and a Soviet Symbol); and a discussion of what, exactly, is Eurasia (an interview with Slavs & Tatars).

We hereby present to you the second print issue of the Contemporary Lynx Magazine.
We focus on the visual arts, design, photography and art collecting, but in this issue, we also show the wider impact of arts on other domains; including how visual culture affects our social life (#Selfie); how the economy can draw from the creativity of artists (Jerzy Hausner); how art becomes a way of life (Werner Jerke), and passion for art, which becomes an integral part of business (Grażyna Kulczyk).
In this issue, we also talk to international curators (Éric de Buretel de Chassey and Stuart Comer) who change the perception of Polish art abroad and write how art inspires fashion, trends in music (sound art) and design for everyday use (ceramics).
In this issue, we also show art that highlights global problems relevant to people across the world (interview with Joanna Rajkowska). We ask about the condition of contemporary art as a whole without drawing divisions among various research methods, domains and geographical locations.
Finally, we offer a look at art as a learning tool to explore cities starting from New York City and Berlin, co-created by artists from Poland and around the world. It is the geographical distance we wish to eliminate by taking you on a journey to multiple cities around the world, such as Hong Kong, Beijing, Wrocław, London and Madrid. We give you an account of their vibrant atmosphere and the creativity of artists in shaping their artistic landscape.
After all, as Erika Hoffman tells us in the interview, art is an international language.
