As we have been navigating through this latest lockdown, our February/March issue has arrived a little later than usual, but we thank all of our patient readers and collaborators for waiting it out with us. That being said, this edition of myCornwall is just as packed with plenty of Cornish loveliness as always. We delve into Cornwall’s latest artistic and sculptural landscape creation, Kerdroya, which is set to be a spectacular, ecological haven that takes inspirations from one of Cornwall’s most ancient landmarks, the humble hedge. We catch up with Tarquin Leadbetter to discuss how leading Cornish gin brand Tarquin’s have managed Covid-19 amongst exciting new releases and new projects. With such delicious drinks, we’ve matched it with a foodie focus on Ugo Massabo, The Cornish Italian, who is bringing his authentic and delicious family-recipe-inspired dishes to the homes of Cornwall. We also meet with Makers Cornwall, a new high-quality craft group born from the Etsy Makers Cornwall collective, who have used lockdown to create new ways of engaging with one another and form an exciting, independent platform that they hope to build on in the future. With a sense of spring hope in the air, some of our favourite galleries, artists and makers are gearing up for the new season ahead with stunning new exhibitions, releases and emerging artists on the horizon. 

It seems that this year’s festive season has received a particularly warm welcome by those who are keen to inject a little bit of hope after what has been a difficult year. In light of recent circumstances, and the latest lockdown, this issue of myCornwall is a little different. Inside you will find our Guide to a Cornish Christmas, which features a wide variety of Cornwall’s makers, small businesses, artists, producers and more. It’s a guide we have been making for years, but sadly when the announcement of the second lockdown hit, we had to adapt quickly. Alongside the inclusion of our Guide to a Cornish Christmas, you’ll find plenty of the usual myCornwall content. From the latest in art and Cornish living, we’re championing Cornwall’s virtual presence just as much as its physical one this issue. With donut makers making it happen on Instagram, to online gallery exhibitions and local shops ready and waiting for virtual visitors, there’s plenty to get stuck into.

In this October/November issue of myCornwall we’ve embodied the essence autumnal adventuring into the pages. Despite this undoubtedly difficult year, there have been moments of success and innovation amongst the adversity, from Jubilee Pool’s brand-new geothermal pool to one photographers’ quest to capture the Cornwall’s coastlines and landscapes in stunning aerial artistry. In celebration of adaptation in adversity, we catch up with Cornwall’s business start-up experts, Outset Cornwall, who have helped hundreds of Cornish businesses get off their feet, grow and keep up with the ever-changing times this year alone has brought about. As always, our Art section is once again bursting with creative innovation and new exhibitions to discover and artwork to explore. From a new maker’s hub joining Falmouth’s high street with some of Cornwall’s leading contemporary artists and makers to a Newlyn Art Gallery exhibition celebrating those who used art as an expressive outlet during the four months of lockdown. As daily announcements regarding the coronavirus were released whilst this issue went to print, some of what you may read in our gorgeous April/May issue will have undoubtedly changed since then. It’s an uncertain and difficult time for many of us small businesses, but despite the hardship we’re faced with, there has also been an incredible amount of support and versatility shown by so many of Cornwall’s creative communities.

With that being said, there is still an abundance of Cornish goodness to discover in this issue and enjoy. Plenty to plan for, plenty to explore for yourself online and still plenty of businesses who are open in one way or another. In our first issue of 2020, we’re focusing on positive changes, from caring for our local environment and eating a little more consciously, to taking some time to focus on ourselves away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. If you’re keen to incorporate vegan meals into your diet, then we’ve got ten of Cornwall’s best and most beloved vegan eats and trust us when we say that just because its vegan doesn’t mean it’s lacking in deliciousness. Also, it’s not just our diets we’re thinking about, but also that of our pets too. The incredible team at Doggy Day Care Cornwall are here breaking down the myths and mysteries surrounding the pet food industry. With springtime looming, it’s an exciting time as we all start to get back out into Cornwall’s wild trails and wonderful wilderness and as the flora and fauna start to bloom, Dog Friendly Cornwall are on hand to help with a list of ideal Dog Friendly Gardens across the county you can visit as they burst into the new season. 
Meanwhile, our contributing writer Elizabeth Dale has been discovering all about the new funding for Cornwall’s Area’s of Outstanding Natural Beauty, investigating what the funding will mean for some of Cornwall’s most breath-taking regions and how important it is we protect these areas for future generations.

As we say goodbye to one year and welcome in a new one, our December/January issue is a smorgasbord of festive treats and activities. Festivals, fairs, and forests, our October/November issue is full to the brim of autumnal admiration and activities to do. It’s a time of year when the trees are blushed with oranges and reds, the ocean turns a cool deep blue and nights are long once more. For us, that doesn’t mean that Cornwall is any quieter! Especially lively is the North Cornish town of Bude. Unique in location and abundant in culture and community, we’ve delved in to discover all that is going on in Bude these months, and believe us when we say there is a lot to choose from, be it music festivals, alternative art exhibitions, festive markets and plenty of local gatherings. Further down south and we’re catching up with the Etsy Makers group of Cornwall, who will be holding their biggest event ever at the Penryn Sports Campus this November. 
Now, it’s safe to say we are a big fan of trees and where better a place to see them than Cardinham Woods. Our contributing writer, Elizabeth Dale, gives her take on one of Cornwall’s best-known woodlands, exploring its history, its most beloved sites and more importantly why you should experience it for yourself this autumn. Elizabeth also sits down for a chat with the Forestry Commission to talk through the plans for the new £30 million forest in Cornwall. Admittedly, there are times when Cornwall in winter can seem fairly bleak, but it’s nothing an indulgent night away of good food, good drink and a comfy bed can’t cure. Our Top 10 Places to Eat this edition are based around an ‘Eat & Sleep’ motto and suit a variety of budgets and tastes. From a host of must-see art events and days out with the family to championing local makers and producers alongside plenty of Cornish fun, we hope this issue of myCornwall Magazine helps you make the most out of this magical time of year.

There is plenty and more for you to enjoy and discover this summertime with myCornwall, be it with friends, family, significant others or even the dog, we've got it all.

As Cornwall blooms and the long, dark days are a season of the past, this issue of myCornwall is inspired by change. There are always people in Cornwall doing extraordinary things, with stories that need to be told, and this issue we have done just that. From a modern pasty maker who is setting the bar for making Cornwall's national dish both sustainably and locally, to a group of open ocean swimmers that prove age really is just a number. We discover why Wadebridge is more than just a gateway into beautiful North Cornwall and we also look at the stunning new exhibition at Falmouth Gallery that is giving a voice to todays significant female artists who are carrying on the legacy of Cornwall's art reputation set by their predecessors.
