Welcome to this year’s list of inspiring women. These women come not just from business, but from many fields, demonstrating that women can rise to the top of any endeavor, be it sports, politics or philanthropy. They are of different ages, from teenagers to those who could retire (but haven’t). Inspiration is a noble cause, and perhaps the stories of these 10 can encourage others—female or male—to reach similar achievements.
This list is a milestone as it is the fifth year for highlighting the coun- try’s inspiring women (started in 2013). Looking back on this half-decade, the list has truly resonated well with women, both those who are inspiring, and those who wish to be inspirational. This issue, it is probably safe to say, is one of the very few—if not the only—to shine this type of spotlight on a group with as much diversity as the Inspiring Women’s list.
Naturally, at the start, some asked whether to make this list one that is purely about businesswomen—after all, this is a business magazine. In fact, the very first issue of Forbes magazine, back in 1917 (this year is the centen- nial for the magazine) noted, on its cover, a special section on “Women in Business.”
