For long, to international tourists India has been known for a handful of very famous monuments and sites that have attracted visitors from around the world for decades, if not centuries. Be it the iconic ode to love in the shape of Taj Mahal, the architectural wonders of Rajasthan’s numerous palaces and forts or the fine sculpting that one can relish in various temples around the country. However, India is much more than these few dozen monuments that foreign tourists have traditionally visited. Thanks mainly to the long and continuous Indian civilisation and the sheer diversity of the country in terms of culture, spirituality, languages, cuisines and social traditions, India is a living museum, with hundreds of thousands of monuments of all shapes and sizes all around the country. But most of these have remain undiscovered not just by foreign tourists, but also by many Indians as the access to most of these sites has been bad, thanks to bad roads, poor railway network and absence of adequate air connectivity.

With every issue of India & You we aim at bringing forth unique and undiscovered locations in India for our readers. This time keeping in mind the World Travel Market (WTM), we decided to highlight the key beach destinations in India and how and why it has become a hot favourite choice for travellers from around the world. Each sunny strip on the Indian coastlines offers a different experience. From family-friendly water sports to private coves, beaches in India offer plenty of activities to master the wind and the waves. In this issue we also have something for the mountain lovers. With the ITB Asia 2018 looming over the horizon, we at India and You present before you the region of India with the most untapped tourist potential. Consisting of the states, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura, the north east of India has always had to face the stigma of being clubbed together. And yet, these eight states each have unique things to offer travellers of varying palates. From the serene mountains to the enchanting tea gardens, the landscape is mersmerising. The drinks flow aplenty and the food includes some of the most unique recipes of meat that would sate all your gastronomic desires. This issue of India & You takes a look at India’s love for literature and tries to assess the direction this industry is taking in the country. This issue of India&You; covers a number of destinations and other subjects that touch the sensitivity of the subject. This year,  World Travel Mart (WTM) in London has chosen eco-tourism and sustainable tourism as two of its main themes, allowing countries and companies in the travel business  to exchange best practices in how to protect the environment and also boost tourism at the same time.
