Out of the hundreds of games released every year, there are a couple that fail to catch the

The level of cutscene graphics
is shockingly bad when compared
to the in-game graphics,
a dichotomy that leaves us
puzzled.
As for gameplay, Nether-
Realms has done a very good
job of making the game accessible
to both beginners and
fighting game veterans, giving
the former a relatively simple
moves list, and the latter myriad
metre-burning innovations
like Bounce Cancel, Clash and
Block Escape; frame data display;
more advanced moves,
and a very detailed practice
mode which also supports
online play. Players also have
multiple online, single-player,
and versus game modes, including
a very exhaustive challenges
section.
Character movement and
move input in Injustice is very
similar to Mortal Kombat 9,
however, it does not feature a
dedicated block button, or have
as much reliance on juggle
manoeuvres. The aforementioned
metre-burning moves are
also quite new, giving players
much more flexibility and variation
in gameplay. Unfortunately,
the MK-style discrete-direction
moves aren’t very conducive to
the Xbox 360’s single-button
D-pad, which is more suited to
Capcom-style quarter circle
motions. It’s still playable, but
hard to control as effectively as
the PS3’s four-button D-pad.
Environmental damage is
also possible, however, this is
where the game becomes quite
unfair, with certain characters
doing more damage using props
in certain stages, compared to
other characters. Therefore the
choice of stage becomes vital,
and though the game with randomly
select one of the two
stages chosen by the players,
one player will be left at a distinct
disadvantage in the match,
unless, environment damage is
turned off. The quest for uniqueness
in each character’s gameplay
is what is to blame here,
with a vast difference between
throwing a missile at an opponent,
and simply jumping off it
to potentially surprise them
with a combo.
Verdict
Injustice: Gods Among
Us is an interesting
game, and if you are
a fighting game fan, it
is a must play. There
are several singleplayer
and versus
gameplay modes, and
plenty of challenges,
apart from of course,
online play, to keep the
replay value high. The
story (or cutscenes)
has shoddy graphics,
though, spoiling what
is otherwise a very
enjoyable joyride.
