With a two-year live auction break due to Covid-19, it was heart-warming to experience true Karoo hospitality again when I attended the 7th annual Summit Wildlife Auction near Graaff-Reinet recently. Although auction apps and telephone bidding are the norm these days, this auction will always stand out as a community-orientated event known for its top genetics and high prices. This year was no exception. People not only reached deep into their pockets to acquire top genetics but also to help those in need. R70 400 was raised for the Summit Wildlife charities and R35 000 for HelpJag. Well done to all those involved! Read the full story. As of late, there has been great controversy regarding the fundamental question, “Can you use a Section 16 firearm for self-defence?” Christophe Roelofse tackles this complex issue head-on. He also reviews a few must-have hunting accessories, such as Steiner’s Ranger 4 6-24×56 hunting scope and Ranger LRF 10×42 binoculars, as well as Wheeler’s F.A.T. Stix torque stix wrench set.
