George Osborne Britain’s former Finance Minister, now the editor of the London Evening Standard, on the Brexit negotiations and Prime Minister Theresa May’s future
You surprised the U.K. by moving from one of Westminster’s top jobs to become a newspaper editor. Are you done with politics? The opportunity to edit one of the great British papers came along and I’ve enjoyed every day of it so far. I don’t rule out going back, but it’s certainly not my central plan. I maintain a lot of my political friendships, but I’m not yearning to go back.
As a Conservative minister, you campaigned to stay in the E.U. Do you think Brexit could be overturned as the reality of it becomes clearer? No. Britain is leaving the European Union. I don’t think that’s the right course for the country, but I don’t see any prospect at the moment of that being reversed.
