The current Indian captain scored his thirty-first one day international century in the first match against the visiting New Zealand team at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The instant headlines were ominous as they were inevitable. Kohli had thrown down another gauntlet to cricket’s history. Having scored this landmark century that took him past Australia’s Ricky Ponting who stood second to Sachin Tendulkar with thirty one day international hundreds, Kohli scored his centuries in the fifty overs format in 271 innings, which is seventy-nine less than what Tendulkar took to get to the mark.
