In 2015, Roodewal Kennels in Ermelo was exposed by Schnauzer Friends South Africa as a large Miniature Schnauzer puppy farm network. The dogs were kept in horrific conditions, locked into the breeding cycle, emotionally broken and in need of extensive rehabilitation and medical care. Between Schnauzer Friends South Africa and the SPCA, 320 Miniature Schnauzers were rescued, sterilised, medically treated and homed.
Our Pippa was one of those dogs. The day I adopted Pippa she was the most terrified dog I’d ever encountered. She was totally shut down through fear. Without consciously thinking about it, on the spur of the moment I vowed to the little Schnauzer that I’d never let anyone hurt her again and that I’d help her to have a voice and a choice in her life.
