The International Grains Council’s (IGC) May estimate for global grain production has been adjusted downwards by nearly two million tons month-on-month.
In its market report for May, the IGC said the contraction in the total grain production estimate, which included wheat, maize, soya beans, rice and other coarse grains and oilseeds, was mostly due to an expected drop in maize production in Brazil. The estimate for total grain production in 2017/2018 was set at about two billion tons, down from an estimated 2,1 billion tons in 2016/2017.
