Indigenous Trees
Farmer's Weekly|Farmer's Weekly 8 September 2017

South African landowners should become more involved in propagating and using indigenous trees to ensure their survival and increase biodiversity.

Indigenous Trees

Recently, we discussed how to deal with alien invasive plants. In contrast, many indigenous trees are worth cultivating. Here are a few notable examples:

AFRICAN WATTLE (Peltophorum africanum)

Habitat: Wooded grasslands; woodlands and along vleis. Flowering: September to April. Fruiting: December to May. Uses: Cattle and goats browse the young leaves and pods. The wood is good for furniture, tool handles and fuel.

MATUMI (Breonadia salicina)
