A CONFIDENT performance from Graham Babes and the impressive six-year-old Glencoe sealed victory in the Speedi Beet Horse Of The Year (HOYS) grade C qualifier and booked the partnership’s second appearance at the national finals.
Newcomers second-round champions at Bishop Burton the previous weekend, Graham was one of nine riders to progress to the timed round over George Blackie’s well constructed course.
“Considering this was his first time on grass in a long time, I did think it might be a big ask given his age, but he has such a positive attitude, he just buckled down,” he said of the bay gelding he has had since a yearling.
Graham set an unassailable lead from an early draw.
