From a hunting family, she’s a consummate horsewoman who says she never stops learning

LUCY’S passion for hunting is a consequence of both nature and nurture. Her father, George, was master of the Cattistock for nine seasons; her mother, Dawn, was in a league of her own on the hunting field. Her holloa was legendary. She could sense a fox before it moved; her gift with hounds was a wonder to watch unfold.

All four Pinney offspring were not allowed to hunt until competent off the lead-rein. Lucy’s first memories are of crossing the Blackmore and Sparkford Vale country in the wake of her mother, who was amateur second whipper-in to Tony Austin, and an integral part of the successful team completed by kennel huntsman Tony Herring and field master Trevor Winslade.

In time, Lucy’s father took great pleasure in watching her successfully produce his hunters.

“It soon got to the stage where we goaded each other to jump ridiculous hedges,” laughs Lucy.
