An incident in which a horse escaped after its bridle came offcaused concern
THE FEI “stands by” its stewards’ guidelines following a worrying incident involving a dressage horse at Aachen CHIO.
After completion of her grand prix test at the international show on 20 July, Swedish rider Juliette Ramel went to the steward for the routine tack check.
Her horse Buriel KH was wearing a fly veil, the removal of which by Juliette’s groom caused the bridle to come off. The gelding’s noseband had already been undone to allow the steward to check his bits.
Juliette immediately dismounted, but the 11-year-old broke free and galloped around.
He was caught and avoided serious injury, but the incident has led to calls for tack checks to be made safer.
