Wood fibre bedding can aid in preventing red mite in poultry.
An outbreak of red mite could be on the cards for poultry this spring, due to a combination of warmer weather and birds staying indoors during the avian flu outbreak.
Claire Hayward, Product Sales Manager for easichick bio-secure poultry bedding, said she is increasingly hearing talk within the poultry industry that the risk of red mite outbreaks this year is high because birds have been housed for months when they would usually be roaming free.
“Red mite is notoriously difficult to spot as they come out at night and feast on your poultry’s blood, returning to dark, hard-to-reach cracks and crevices in the poultry houses during the daytime,” said Claire.
