Made to Contain

Inspired by containers, a homestay finds its unique charm blushing the lush agronomic landscapes of Sekinchan.

Made to Contain

Sekinchan boasts one of Malaysia’s very few paddy fields. In its organic grid, the paddy expanse that changes colour from green to yellow in alternate seasons (planting to harvesting) never fails to mesmerise city dwellers who seek peace and quiet. However, there are very few alluring factors that would draw visitors to the suburbs besides its scenery and nearby fishing village.

“There’s only one hotel that is rather special while the rest are dated. Therefore, we thought it would be a great idea to create a unique home stay experience that is affordable while offering something different to Sekinchan,” owner Chu Chin Sin shares.

Sekinchan is also Chu’s hometown. He realises the need for Sekinchan to have something different when it comes to touristy initiatives. The same reason many resorts and hotels are built facing the sea or beaches, the 32-year-old reckons: “Why not build a special home stay that oversees the beautiful paddy fields? Plus, it’s the first of its kind here!”

After multiple precedence researches, Chu sat down and started sketching the concept and idea he had in mind. At that time, the container was his best choice as it is fast to construct, cost-friendly and modular. He worked closely with a local contractor in realising the Farm Ville Home stay, which took about three months to complete.
