3 WHEELS ON MY WAGON

This year Judy and I planned to be away on the bike for 30 days or more, fishing in some of the most beautiful spots in SA, so quite a lot of planning goes into this.

Bike serviced, new tyres fitted all round, fishing reels serviced, rods selected, tackle selected, some tools, our fan, cooler bag, Pisspot helmets to explore and braai grid. One must remember that the trike will do around 230km – 250km a tank of fuel safely, depending on conditions, which equates to between 11-13 km per litre. So one’s route must be planned to eliminate any distances one might encounter between fuel stops that are greater than that.

Judy and I left Hoedspruit on Monday the 28th October in 40 degree weather. Having been slack the day before (we work half day on Sundays) I had not packed my clothes until 4am on the Monday, consequently due to the heat I packed some Tee shirts, three short pants, two Jeans, one track-suit pants, one long sleeved tee shirt some socks and undies and a jacket. This lack of packing warm clothes would come back and bite me. Early that Monday a colleague of ours dropped us off at the control gate and off to JHB, via Hoedspruit Ohrigstad, Lydenburg, Dullstroom, Belfast, Witbank. Spent the Monday afternoon and Tuesday in JHB, bike went into Harley Clearwater to be checked, and new brake pads fitted at the rear, did some stocking up of fishing tackle.
