The 2019 Championship season nears its halfway marker point
With the winter months taking hold it reminds us that the Motorsport season and therefore the Championships are nearing their hallway markers. This is usually the time that the cream rise to the top and want to control the championship lead heading into the mid-year short break. I say short as it’s barely noticeable. Gone are the days of a full month off to do motor or machine rebuild and to rest weary bodies…and wallets.
Oh no, it’s race flat out and hope you can keep up. The calendars have gotten super busy these past few years or so and with many athletes and teams competing in multiple championships the challenges become even greater. This week we look at the players fighting for top position on the track and in the dirt.
The Tarmac superstars that travel the country racing the National Championship have started with a different look and feel to their series. For starters Dezzi’s Raceway in Port Shepstone hosted their season opener rather than the historically first round of Zwartkops in Pretoria. Brad Annassis is at the helm of the new Series also taking care of marketing and logistics and stepping out of his usual role as team manager. There were early season tyre changes that could a few top riders out as the Pirelli rubber used by the national Championship for many years now changed across to Metzler between rounds one and two.
For Reigning Champ in the SuperSport class it’s business as usual as Blaze Baker took the opening two rounds with relative easy. Two pole positions and four race wins in a row to start thinking about having the perfect season and going undefeated.
