Basket case!

We’re inside the back of a clutch basket and there are no listed spares. Welcome to part one of sorting a clutch’s shock absorber.

Basket case!

If you’ve been following our Yamaha CS3C restoration series then you’ll be painfully aware that the 200cc street scrambler had led a hard life, despite having less than 7000 miles on its odometer.

Given the state of peripheral items, along with the scuffed tailpipes, it’s fair to say it’s been well abused. When we found a clutch basket that looked as if it had been attacked by metal-eating rodents this pretty much confirmed the bike had spent a lot of its life on the back wheel. The spare clutch basket assembly miraculously produced by Dave J saved the day… well, almost. We subsequently spotted that the aluminium basket appeared to have far too much rotational free play in relation to the primary drive gear on to which it’s affixed.
