The first school connect conclave called ‘Aaveskhan’ held at Delhi recently in the interest of the safety of school children in school buses brought together many stakeholders, and all those closely connected to the world of school buses and school children. Organised by the Society Of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Delhi Traffic Police and the ministry of road transport and highways, in the presence of representatives from various schools, the event focused on the safety of school children travelling in school buses. Putting the spotlight on the use of GPS devices in school buses, and as notified by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the conclave saw Naveen Soni, President, SAFE (a SIAM initiative), expressed in his address that they have been actively engaging with schools and educating students with an objective to enhance the safety of school children. “Schools,” he said, “are switching to GPS systems (in their school buses) in order to enhance the safety of children. This is being aptly supported by manufacturers who are including safety measures for school buses,” he added.
