Exhibiting an autonomous tractor and announcing a tie-up with Tadano of Japan to manufacture mobile cranes, Escorts is developing critical rail components too. The rail division of the company has come out with an innovative braking system that is made completely locally. Supplying air brake system components, EP brake system components, draft gears, couplers, composition brake blocks, dampers and rubber components for Indian Railways, the company is driving a change where the place of imported parts is increasingly being taken by parts that are made locally in India. Building in-house capability, according to Dipankar Ghosh, CEO, Railway Equipment Division, Escorts, the company is perhaps the only supplier of bogey-mounted brake systems in the country.
