Combining classic bobber styling with pillion essentials, Harley-Davidson’s Softail Standard heads down a different road.

DAYTRIPPER

When I first rode the Softail Standard, it struck a chord with me. There was a certain something going on. By the time I’d ridden it enough to burn through a couple of tanks of fuel, a very loose plan was evolving. The FXST was a bike I could gladly park in the editorial shed for more than the normal fortnight we get test bikes for.

But…

There were bits that needed to be changed, added, or subtracted to make it mine.

Harley-Davidson put together a series of ready-made packages for the Softail Standard that would suit lots of people. We had a quick look at them in HD#170. At that stage supply and demand were … interesting. Parts were in transit somewhere between the US, the black hole known as Covid-19 and Australia. Then the ships came in, containers were unloaded and bits made it on to bikes.

One of those packages was the Day Tripper. You may recognise it as the package fitted to the Softail Standard on these pages.
