Unrestored LS6 Is Possibly the Finest Example in Existence.
Doug Bolton was a young hot rodder and Chevrolet nut who needed the hottest engine that Chevy could muster in 1970. Roy Price Chevrolet was just a few short blocks from his home in Bountiful, Utah, so it was only natural that when the time came to bolt in a bad-to-the-bone Bow Tie powerplant in his project car, Doug would stroll over to the dealership’s parts counter to see what was available.
When the parts department could not get him the LS7 crate motor he so desperately wanted, Doug decided he would head to the front desk and see what “fully stocked” street-burner he could order straight up from Chevy. He talked to his good friend Cory Peterson, who at the time was a salesperson at the dealership.
“First off, Doug asked if we could special order a COPO LS6-motivated Chevelle 300 Deluxe sedan,” says Corey. “The sales manager threw a fit when we asked to do a COPO order, so Doug decided to go in a different direction altogether, and we started the process of ordering an LS6 Chevelle SS for him.”
After laying down his cash for the new SS, Doug had to wait a few weeks for the car to arrive. But on the big day, he had some bad news for Cory. It seems in the short time between ordering the car and delivery, Doug had managed to lose his driving privileges. The great state of Utah felt that the young driver was enough of a menace to revoke his privilege to operate a motor vehicle. But interestingly enough, that issue didn’t stop Doug from getting his car. He paid the balance for the Chevelle on arrival, and had his brother Jim (who also worked at the dealership) drive the car the few blocks to their house. Problem solved!
