Budget Drag Bike
Practical Sportsbikes|January 2018

PART 3: BIG BITS IN THE RIGHT PLACES Now comes the real build, hampered however, by real errors of judgment. Nobody said it would be easy. But just how difficult do people want to make their lives? Eh?

Gary Hurd & Alan Seeley
Budget Drag Bike

Much admired at the recent Classic Bike Live event and also the inspiration for at least one Practical Sportsbikes reader project, it’s now time for us to get on with the build proper of Project Drag Bike. It really wouldn’t do for us to be beaten to the punch and indeed the drag strip, and even at the drag strip, by someone else.

As it stood, the bike shown at the show was very much more a statement of intent rather than a matter of fact. Not that a lot of significant work hasn’t already been done. The frame has been modified and powdercoated by Triple S, who also refinished the wheels in the same splendid metal flake. The bodywork too is ready, vinyl-wrapped by our workshop neighbours, MKS Customs. So much for the cosmetics. We best get real with the mechanicals.
