Superdrift 3 made short work of tyres at the Dezzi International Raceway
Supadrift 3 at Dezzi Raceway in May produced some top class drifting. Dezzi is always a challenge, with its blind corners and steep ascents and descents making it one of the best drift circuits in the country. The team did an enormous amount of work on the General Tire Mustang after the Kimberley event – in fact, the entire front suspension was reworked, giving the car more angle than ever before, and we were excited to see how the car would perform.
With very little time to test before the event, we had our fingers crossed that new gremlins would not jump out during the competition. The longer you race, though, the more you realise that you often have to take five steps back before you can move ten steps forward! The new suspension geometry put pressure on the steering shaft at full lock, and I found myself a few times with a steering wheel turning freely with no steering input at all.
As a result, we missed out on qualifying in the Top 16, but it was great to see Shane Gutzeit finally take the win at his home track, and I’m looking forward to getting back to the Dezzi track when we head down there again later in the season. The steering issue was easily sorted out in the workshop, and I’m super happy with the progress we’ve made – the Mustang has mega angle and has been superb in testing. Roll on Supadrift 4 at Carnival City!
