Drop-top version of Porsche’s iconic sports car promises fewer compromises than ever On sale Now Price from £102,755
PURISTS WILL SAY that the Porsche 911 should always have a fixed roof, but the soft-top 911 Cabriolet has proved hugely popular since it was introduced back in 1982. That’s because the 911 is invariably one of the best sports cars to drive, and for most people, the ability to enjoy that out in the open outweighs the small compromises brought to the ride and handling.
Those have actually been very small for more than a decade now, but Porsche won’t rest on its laurels, so the new ‘992’ 911 Cabriolet uses even more high-strength steel and aluminium in its construction, making it even more rigid.
As with the super-impressive new 911 coupé, initially there are the rear-driven Carrera S and four-wheel-drive Carrera 4S models to choose from, but in the fullness of time, you can expect entry-level Carreras, bonkers-fast Turbos and a GTS to bridge the gap between.
You’re also limited to an eight-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox (PDK) for now, but then this makes a 911 even easier to live with.
