The fourth edition of the India Electronics Week (IEW) witnessed a huge gathering of people from the electronics industry. From veterans to students, everyone was enlightened by the eminent speakers sharing their experiences at the conferences, and the exhibitors displaying the latest in the electronics world.
India Electronics Week (IEW) 2019, one of the largest global events that promotes the Indian electronics industry, was kicked off on February 26 at the Karnataka Trade Promotion Organisation (KTPO) in Bengaluru. The event was supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Electronics India (its ESDM wing), and Digital India. The theme for this year’s edition of IEW was ‘Driving technology, innovation and investment for smart products’.
Ramesh Chopra, founder and chairman, the EFY Group, welcomed the dignitaries with his inaugural address. On the subject of the fast pace of the ongoing technological developments, he said, “First we had things. Then, we had moving things. Then, these became electronics things. Then they turned smarter, and are now becoming Internet things and, in many cases, intelligent things.
“What’s interesting is that the journey between the initial phases took hundreds of years, but the journey after these things allied with electronics happened within a few years. In fact, the last three transformations are happening almost simultaneously and electronics is playing a critical role.”
Chopra emphasised the fact that the upfront cost of a manufacturing setup has come down significantly because of compact table-top machines, which are further complemented by rapid prototyping. He said, “To motivate small-scale manufacturing and the setting up of full-fledged R&D labs, we have laid special emphasis on enrolling exhibitors who provide desktop manufacturing equipment and prototyping equipment.”
Realising the growing demand for additive manufacturing and rapid prototyping technology among engineering designers and manufacturers, this year’s IEW provided a platform to an array of exhibitors who made customers realise that low cost manufacturing is no more a dream.
