Speaking to Farmer’s Weekly, Van Reenen said the Transkei Feed Kraal, based in KwaHolela in Centane on the farm of the late King Xolilizwe, was the first such venture in the area. It would directly benefit the communities in and around Centane, which struggled with the marketing of their animals.
An initial investment of R6 million was required to build the facility.
“This venture will assure beef cattle producers of a formalised off-take. The Transkei Feed Kraal will act as buyer of the cattle, with the Beefmaster Group as the final off-taker,” Van Reenen added.
