Datascrip taps growing demand for luxury furniture with Vastuhome.
PT Datascrip Indonesia, which began as a humble stationary store in 1969, is now known as the one-stop business solution company providing office equipment, machines, electronics, and computers. But since 2006, through Vastu home, the company has been expanding its business to luxury furniture as demand grows in line with growing luxury residential and grade A offices in Indonesia, especially Jakarta.
Forbes talked with Zaky Makarim, 49, division manager of Vastu home at the company’s well-stocked showroom in Pakubuwono, a highly prestigious architectural area in South Jakarta, about the trends in luxury furniture and the company’s plans going forward. The 850-sqm display area is home to first-class European furniture brands, including Gandia Blasco and Palluco. The following are excerpts from the interview.
Forbes Indonesia: What made Datascrip diversify its business to luxury furniture through Vastu home?
Zaky Makarim: Our holding PT Datascrip Indonesia has seven divisions of strategic business units. Among them is the office furniture and filing system division. In that division, we initially focused more on office furniture. However, we also did a lot of projects for the CEO and business owner’s offices that sometimes demanded better furniture in terms of quality and design. From that point, we began to synergize office and home furniture so we could merge office and home projects into one. Finally, we were able to accommodate all demands and now Vastu home has been operating for 13 years.
