No-code platforms have burst onto the enterprise scene and have captivated the attention of front-line business users and business analysts. The promise of faster implementation and lower cost of ownership has made no-code the new buzzword.
As this new way of building software becomes mainstream, it is crucial to understand what no-code really is. At the same, it is also essential to understand what components together comprise a no-code platform and make it enterprise-ready.
Further, the path to nocode adoption isn't as easy as it seems. As with any transformational technology, it requires a significant internal reorganization of methods and processes to reap the promised benefits of no-code.
The end goal of no-code platforms should be the democratization of technology. Democratization entails easy availability at affordable price points and in a manner that is easily understood and usable by a large number of people.
What really is no-code?
In very simple terms, no-code changes the method of engagement with a machine to create software. Traditionally, man-machine engagement has been through languages that a machine could understand - coding.
On the other hand, no-code replaces those languages with a visual interface, typically in the form of drag and drop symbols, which are better understood by humans who are not adept at coding. The no-code platform acts as an interpretation layer between the visual interface and the specific languages understood by the machine.
As no-code platforms evolve, these drag and drop symbols could be replaced by natural language and eventually move towards autonomous software development. This will make the engagement for software creation between humans and machines seamless.
