Costume designer Niharika Bhasin shares the thrill of creating new worlds, new characters ... courtesy clothes with Kinnari Rathod

From the madness, she learnt to find a method. It took a while for the US returned Niharika Bhasin to find her bearings in chaotic showbiz. “It was bizarre. I didn’t understand it! You don’t know what the hell is going on. There's chaos on the set and then there's your own creative chaos,” says the noted costume designer recalling her early experience on a film set. That today she’s 70 mm’s most trusted costume designer would be an understatement.

After all, she’s the one who transformed the demure Vidya Balan into sex diva Silk Smitha in The Dirty Picture (2011) and altered the actor’s career forever. She also had a hand in making Deepika Padukone chop her waist length tresses for Kartik Calling Katrik (2010). It was her contemporary vision that gave us peppy, hippie rebels in Rock On!! (2008) and Delhi Belly (2011). Recently, she has transformed the urbane Harshvardhan Kapoor into a folklore archer in his upcoming debut – Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirziya. Niharika did her masters in Human Resource Management and Public Relations in Seattle, in the US.
