A few years back at an award function, filmmaker Subhash Ghai met a Bengali beauty and told her, “You’re a star. You have that spark in you. Come to Bollywood!” That pretty girl was Malobika Banerjee (MJ), who’s now ready to start her innings in Hindi cinema. She blushes as she recalls the legendary filmmaker’s compliment. But she doesn’t read beyond that. “I’m a practical girl. People mentioned that Subhashji has launched girls, whose names began with the letter M (Madhuri Dixit,

Manisha Koirala. Mahima Chaudhary) and that my name also began with M,” she says. “Surely, he said come to Mumbai. But he didn’t say he’d be giving me a film. But when I did a music video, I thought of giving Hindi films a try,” she states.

Malobika recently featured in Zee Music Company’s single Dilbar sung by Shahid Mallya, which marked her debut in Bollywood. She will also be making an appearance in popular singer Kanika Kapoor’s music video Pretty Girl, produced by T-series. The video has been directed by Shabeena
