People’s Choice winner Priyanka Chopra talks to Ashwini Deshmukh about love, infidelity, heartache and why she wants to have a home full of babies.
Priyanka Chopra is the first South East Asian actress, to win the People’s Choice Award. She did so for her trendsetting new American TV show Quantico. From the Indian perspective, she’s conquered the West and how!
Yes, others are working in Hollywood films and TV too, but PC is out billing her Indian contemporaries. Back home she’s the toast of the critics’ circle and award shows. Her portrayal of Kashibai in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani stole the thunder, with consummate ease. Her career is in a golden phase. It’s the sort of professional journey artistes around the world can only dream of. With the spotlight constantly on her work, her personal life has been limited to the shadows. As usual, there’s plenty of speculation and curiosity but Priyanka is not the one to spill the beans on matters close to heart. She’s fiercely guarded about her close ones but she’s also candid enough to reveal her emotional side. She’s happy, she’s content and she loves every moment of her life. Where others might cripple under the jet lag, PC is fresh and teasing and she talks nineteen to the dozen about love, heartbreak, cheating husbands, having babies. No topic spared...
As Kashibai you left audiences mesmerised…
(Laughs) When I came home from Los Angeles post the release, my house was a garden of bouquets. I wondered what had happened. It wasn’t even my birthday. Then I started reading people’s cards and messages for Kashi. I was overwhelmed.
What made you agree to play Kashibai, a non-titular role?
