Ranbir Kapoor is gung ho about playing the life and times of Sanjay Dutt and more...
Having enjoyed the tremendous success of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil despite the controversies surrounding the film,Ranbir Kapoor is a much relieved man. Nevertheless, he has this calm, Zen like aura at all times. He seems to be only focussed on the present and the future. Right now, he’s looking forward to doing the biopic based on Sanjay Dutt’s rollercoaster life. His eyes light up when he talks about Baba. “The biopic that Rajkumar Hirani is making will teach you something. It will talk about human flaws, the emotional fatherson story (between Sanjay and the late Sunil Dutt), his relationship with his best friend, with the women in his life. It’s emotional, it’s funny, it’s sad, it’s bittersweet. The youth have a lot to learn from his mistakes,” he reveals.
However, there’s no apparent physical similarity between Ranbir and Sanjay. The actor smiles and admits that apart from ‘the long face’ there’s nothing common. He adds that he considers Sanjay Dutt as a real rockstar. “Sanjay’s lived his life. He owned up to his mistakes,he’s paid the price for it. He’s been through much… his mother (the late Nargis Dutt) passing away just before the premiere of his film, drug abuse, being labelled a terrorist, his failed marriages, the grind of punishment... We’re not trying to project Sanjay Dutt in any way, it’s not a propaganda film,” he asserts.
He’s unhappy that the Kishore Kumar biopic has reached a state of impassé. He regrets that in our country, filmmakers are seldom allowed to use the controversial angles of a person’s life. “Dada (Anurag Basu) had a great story to tell but certain permissions were not given,” he rues adding, “Kishore Kumar’s relationships were part of his life. All those aspects made him interesting. But we were not allowed to use that.”
