WITH suspected serial killer Robert Durst on trial for the brutal murder of his best friend, a longtime pal has claimed the crackpot tried to hire him to do the hit first!
DURST PAL: HE HIRED ME FOR HIT!

Reformed jewel thief William Steel told The National ENQUIRER he captured Durst’s chilling offer on audiotape, but the prosecution has refused his help in convicting the psycho.

Durst’s sensational and long-awaited murder trial — his third — began May 17 in a Los Angeles courtroom after a more than yearlong delay due to the pandemic.

The one-time New York real estate heir is accused of killing his close confidante, writer Susan Berman, in 2000 to keep her from cooperating with a police probe into the disappearance of his first wife, Kathie, in 1982.

According to Steel, the now 78-year-old Durst summoned him to a meeting in Florida in November 2000 to discuss assassinating Susan for him!

“We need to kill Susan,” Steel said the mad millionaire told him. “I said, ‘Who is WE? I’m not … doing anything to her. I like Susan.’

“I was wired the whole time!”
