We got more than we bargained for when we called Rylan Clark-Neal for a chat about his second series of Supermarket Sweep.
During the interview his mum Linda unwittingly interrupts in the background, prompting an amusing outburst from the host.
“Hang on a second, my mum’s trying to say something. Mum, I’m doing an interview. I’m actually on a phone call – piss off!” he says, which has us in hysterics.
As we continue chatting about the show – Rylan, 31, tells us he’s just finished a long day’s filming – legendary Linda makes another appearance.
“She’s now walking around with a rainbow pride cape on!” he says as we imagine him rolling his eyes. “Can someone control her? What are you doing? I’m on an interview, Mum. Oh my God, I’m so sorry.”
But there’s no need to apologise at all. We’ve loved watching their dynamic on Celebrity Gogglebox and Rylan’s mum has become the stand-out star of the show. “Gum stains,” anyone?
Here, Rylan tells us what he thinks of Linda’s newfound fame, his dream Supermarket Sweep line-up and his hopes for a Big Brother return…
Hi Rylan. Supermarket Sweep is back for another series. Are you excited?
Yeah, absolutely. I think everyone is in for a really good series. It’s a proper mix of characters this year. We’ve even had an 80-year-old in!
What’s it been like being back in the studio?
Yeah, I mean to go from lockdown to Supermarket Sweep – it’s sort of two ends of the spectrum. We’re really, really grateful to be able to do it. I’m over the moon.
