It’s hard to believe that new detective show Whitstable Pearl marks the first major lead role in Kerry Godliman’s career.
“I was extremely excited and almost shocked,” the 47-year-old comedian and actress tells us over Zoom. “I suppose if I ever did get a lead, I expected it to be in comedy, so I was pleasantly surprised and extremely flattered.”
But for those who have tuned in to Kerry over the years, it will come as no surprise. After storming the stand-up and panel show circuit, Kerry showed she was no one-trick pony and has built up an impressive acting CV with shows including Save Me and Adult Material. Then, when Ricky Gervais cast her as the late Lisa in his hilarious, but at times heart-wrenching, Netflix show After Life, Kerry found herself propelled to a new level of stardom.
Here, the down-to-earth star – who is mum to Elsie, 14, and Frank, 10, with her actor husband Ben Abell – talks about her latest project, how she made people laugh over lockdown, and her role at home…
