Vernon Kay has been a regular on our screens since he started out on T4 back in 2000, but his job as a TV presenter does come with a downside – lengthy stints away from wife Tess Daly and their two daughters Phoebe, 17, and Amber, 12.
“I miss them but FaceTime is king,” reveals Vernon. “It’s important to make sure there’s that connection when you’re away.”
Since they tied the knot in 2003, family time has been precious for Vernon, 47, and Tess, 52. She is busy with Strictly Come Dancing each autumn, while 2020 saw him win over the nation when he came third on I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!
But Vernon’s current presenting duties for Formula E on Channel 4 means he will spend a large portion of the year travelling. “There are a few emotionally stretching things I miss. Like Amber recently had her first disco at school, so I missed that. But Tess sends me loads of pictures,” the doting dad tells us.
When we join Vernon in Mexico, where the eighth season of Formula E is taking place, the star tells us, “It’s so exciting to see different cultures and different ways of life.”
Here, Vernon tells OK! what his daughters think of their parents’ fame and his passions...
Hi, Vernon. You’re hosting the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship for the eighth season. What do you love most about the job?
