Bros documentary After The Screaming Stops, featuring 80s pop duo Matt and Luke Goss, was the surprise TV hit of 2018. It followed the estranged twins’ rise and fall in painful reality. It also reminded viewers why the pair, along with former bandmate Craig Logan, were – and still are – immensely successful.
Matt, 51, is in lockdown at home in Las Vegas, where he has a residency at The Mirage. As he chats to us on the phone, he reveals he’s gazing at the mountains, with native American flute music playing, and his British bulldog Reggie snoozing between his legs. Quite an image!
Not surprisingly, given his pop star good looks and charm, Matt has had his fair share of glamorous girlfriends, including Melanie Sykes, X Factor star Rebecca Ferguson and US TV host Daisy Fuentes, who he lived with for 10 years. A relationship with a mysterious “love of his life” imploded after the death of his mother Carol in 2014 from breast cancer. “I was enveloped in a cloud of grief. Losing my mum affected everything,” he says.
Matt speaks with passion on everything from lost love to family sorrow. On the subject of Black Lives Matter he’s particularly animated, insisting, “Right now we must put all our focus on it. George Floyd was murdered slowly in public while knowingly being filmed. There was not one solitary piece in my body that did not feel anger when I saw that.”
Here, Matt opens up about healing emotional wounds, his rocketing libido and his strict self-care regime...
