We’re certain Gavin Shipman and Stacey West never thought they’d see the day that royalty would descend on Barry Island. But the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge looked more than at home as they visited the seaside resort made famous by the BBC sitcom.
William and Kate’s trip came as businesses in Wales began to reopen after lockdown rules eased. Kate, who wore a floral Emilia Wickstead frock, showed her competitive side as she and William took each other on in the amusement arcades. And though we’re used to seeing Nessa and co in the town, William admitted, “It’s one of the few box sets I haven’t already watched.”
The duke and duchess also visited Shire Hall Care Home in Cardiff, where they had called bingo for residents via video link back in May. At the time, 87-year-old Joan Drew-Smith told the pair their bingo calling, “Wasn’t as good as it should have been.” And when reunited face to face, she wasn’t backing down!
William asked her, “You said we didn’t do a very good job?” To which she replied, “No, you did a bloody s**t job,” leaving the highly amused royals in fits of giggles.
It was a busy week for Kate, who was in Sheffield days earlier. The Duchess of Cambridge has said she was moved to tears after visiting a baby bank in the city.
