THE actress chats about her new, and very different, role.
SANDRA BULLOCK is on the lookout for love, but not in the way you might expect of a hopelessly romantic movie star of a single mother in her 50s. It’s love on screen that turns Sandra on and she’s determined to find it – even in a post-apocalyptic horror movie in which demons drive people to suicide through making them face their greatest fear.
As scary and hopeless as the setting to Bird Box is, Sandra is most excited to be bringing a story of love and family to people who she hopes might just learn something about themselves while being terrified out of their wits. The actress admits that her deepest fears and anxieties for her two adopted children – Louis, eight, and six-year-old Laila – helped her connect with her character’s fight for survival in the movie, but it was the love story behind it all and the chance to convey a woman with a real connection to her partner that made her want to star in what is essentially her first horror movie.
Here, the 54-year-old, who has been quietly dating model-turned-lifestyle photographer Bryan Randall, 52, for the past three years, talks about acting blindfolded while seeing the true beauty in her first venture into horror.
What motivated you to make what is essentially a horror movie?
The thrill ride of entertainment. When you have been in this business for a while, you realise this isn’t just about having a great role because if no one sees it, who cares? Making a thrilling suspense-filled ride that also has a deep and meaningful story about family, love and humanity was also a big part of why I was so excited to do this.
The idea of this movie is that anyone who looks at these creatures is driven mad by their one greatest fear. What would be your greatest fear?
