The Ceremony

It was a Royal Wedding quite unlike any other. With a gospel choir, a sizzling sermon by a highly animated preacher and a congregation that featured nearly as much Hollywood royalty as the real thing!

It was already thought that Meghan Markle would bring some changes to old and possibly outdated Royal conventions and she certainly brought a breath of fresh air - and more than a touch of Hollywood glamour - to her wedding to Prince Harry. As a woman who has navigated her own way in the world it was perhaps quite fitting that she made a dramatic solo journey down the aisle to meet her groom. Supported in her final steps by Prince Charles, she also chose not to be formally given away at the altar.

In fact Prince Harry and his Best Man, Prince William looked more overawed by the occasion, despite the fact that they had their closest family in attendance while Meghan had just her mother, Doria Ragland in support.

The hour-long service was just perfect, a glamorous, stylish, ridiculously beautiful event that was also incredibly entertaining. Very rarely does one say that a service was too short, but we could certainly have done with even more.

Meghan looked amazing in her £100,000 Givenchy dress with its five metre veil made from silk tulle with a trim of embroidered flowers representing the 53 flowers of each Commonwealth country. Though nothing could upstage her on the day, cute 3-year-old bridesmaid Princess Charlotte came close when she escorted her new aunt into the chapel - cheekily sticking out her tongue to the delight of onlookers. Her brother Prince George was perfectly well behaved and did not put a foot wrong as he obediently held the hand of 6-year-old Jasper Dyer, the son of Prince Harry’s mentor, Mark Dyer, a former army officer.
