John Travolta tells Us about working with Fred Durst (yes, that Fred Durst) on his most disturbing role yet
Nearly 15 years ago, John Travolta met Fred Durst, the lead singer of Limp Bizkit. He had an idea for a movie loosely based on his own experience, about an obsessed fan tracking a celebrity. Durst, 49, told Travolta, 65, that he had the veteran actor in mind for the part of the fan. “It took 15 years, but he found the subject matter, wrote a script with me in mind and submitted it to me,” says Travolta. In The Fanatic (Aug. 30), he portrays Moose, who starts off harmless but turns dangerous as he zeroes in on action star Hunter Dunbar (played by Devon Sawa) and attempts to destroy his life. The actor takes Us on the dark adventure.
Q: Did you know who Fred Durst was before the project?
I knew his music, of course! He was huge in pop culture. Then I read this incredible script with an incredibly specific vision. I just couldn’t wait to be part of it. I’m very proud of our work together and his intention to communicate this particular idea.
