In May, after receiving an honorary doctorate degree in fine arts from New York University, Taylor Swift dressed in an official cap and gown and flaunting her signature red lip - gave the commencement speech in front of the school's graduating class at Yankee Stadium. The crowd cheered as the prolific songwriter poked fun at herself ("I'm 90 percent sure the reason I'm here is because I have a song called '22," she quipped) and shared a heartfelt message of resiliency. "I'm trying to tell you that losing things doesn't just mean losing," she said. "A lot of the time, when we lose things, we gain things too. My experience has been that my mistakes led to the best things in my life."
It was a rare sighting of Swift, 32, who's been staying largely out of the public eye save for a few appearances here and there (she attended the Grammy Awards in 2021, where she took home the coveted prize for album of the year). According to a source, a burned-out Swift - who's grown increasingly weary of the spotlight in recent years has been lying low as she splits her time between London - where she shares a home with her boyfriend of nearly six years, British actor Joe Alwyn, 31 - and Nashville. "Taylor hated all the gossip and negativity that came with the Hollywood scene," the source tells Us. "She needed to get away from it all and just live life on her own terms."
