SUMMER VACATIONS

sound so perfect on paper. It’s holiday season, there’s ample family time and no school or fixed routines. But any parent will tell you, it’s not as picture perfect in reality. The weather is hot, and kids can’t play outside for too long. Often, their friends are away on vacation. “Mom, I’m bored!” is uttered at least 10-15 times a day (yes, we can see that stress vein from here!) But worry not. Here are fun, creative indoor activities that you can easily organise for your children. Best part: Most of them can be modified.

Fort or Doll House

Dig out old cardboard boxes, some tape and glue, coloured paper, stickers and paints and let your kids build a fort or a doll house. Building is itself an activity, and then pretend-playing with it is another one. Four equal-height corners of boxes need to be cut and laid out. They must stand apart at a width distance your child wants. Use stacked and taped toilet paper rolls or foil rolls on the inner sides for support. Measure wall size and cut out cardboard sheets in that size. This is also the right time to cut out windows and doors. Then stick the walls to the standing corners using tape. Use another flat sheet (slightly wider than width of the fort or doll house) and fold sides and then tape sides to create a floor. Then make the ceiling. And voila! Her doll house or fort is here.

BROWNIE POINTS

It will boost their imagination, along with shape and colour coordination skills. In addition, building things strengthens both motor and artistic skills.
