If I may ask, how much do you love your phone? Chances are, most of us would say, c'mon dude, is that even a question? “Of course, too much! I can't think of spending even a day without my phone.” We all needed it for navigation, entertainment, online shopping, to be active on social media, watching movies, or even to stay in touch with our loved ones. Everyone has their own reasons to be in a love-hate relationship with their smartphone. Many research studies show that we are all way too obsessed with our phones. Every second person around the world has trouble unplugging, even when they're aware that it's way healthier to put down their phone. Maybe because the act of checking a smartphone for notifications or alerts have become an involuntary habit for most of us.
To put it simply, picking up a smartphone to check for notifications while working, studying, spending time with friends, or even while watching television has become an involuntary habit. So, if we willingly try to unplug from our phone, it could be possible.
Let's start with the tools that are already available on your phone. If you have an iPhone/iPad running iOS 12 (or later) version, there is a feature called Screen Time, which gives you a wealth of data about your iPhone/iPad usage, breaking down the amount of time you spent in each individual app on your device, the number of notifications received, and total pickups per hour. There is even an option to put time limits on a particular app or an entire category of apps, like social media, productivity, or entertainment. Furthermore, Screen Time lets parents access their child's Screen Time reports right from their own iPhone/iPad using Family Sharing in iCloud, and gives them an option to set app limits and parental controls on their child's iOS device.
