Apple recently launched three new iPhones: the iPhone 11 we’re reviewing here, the iPhone 11 Pro (with a better screen and camera) and the larger iPhone 11 Pro Max. It’s the ‘basic’ model that has piqued our interest, though, with an affordable price (for an iPhone, at least) and an overall package that’s only slightly behind its more expensive siblings. At £729 for the 64GB model, it’s not only £320 cheaper than the basic iPhone 11 Pro but £70 less than last year’s iPhone XR was when it launched.
Build and screen
At first glance, the iPhone 11 looks no different from its higher-powered siblings. It has a square camera plinth at the rear, which is integrated into the single sheet of glass that makes up the back of the case. This model comes in a choice of black, green, yellow, purple, red and white, with an anodized aluminum trim running around its perimeter. It’s robust, too – the case’s waterproofing can withstand being submerged in up to 2m of water for 30 minutes before it risks taking damage.
From the front, it’s barely distinguishable from the other models, with a slightly thicker border around the display than the Pro models but no difference in the size of the notch at the top of the screen.
