WHEN the dark days of winter finally start to thaw, nothing compares to the bright joy of a simple primrose (Primula vulgaris) unfurling beneath the trees. A true harbinger of spring, the primrose can appear as early as late December in milder years, but March is the perfect time to find these yellow diamonds sprinkled across the forest floor. The damp, shaded conditions in our woodlands provide the perfect environment for many spring flowers, but they can also be found in meadows and at the base of hedgerows.
